First clean at a new restaurant

When we started cleaning the windows

9 months of building work can leave the windows pretty mucky! And because it had not been used for a very long time outside was just as bad as inside wa, covered in spiders webs, and general grime. They also had big stickers over the windows for advertising while they were getting ready to open that had to be removed.

The stickers

There came off okay with just a bit of persuasion. We went prepared with a heat gun and white spirits but in the end these didn’t call for it, just patience and persistence.

Getting the grime off the outside

Even though we were cleaning with pure water, because it had been so long since it had been cleaned we decided to use to detergent to soap up the outside of the glass. It can help on a first clean to make sure that all the engrained dirt is completely removed.

We soaped up the whole front of the restaurant and left it to loosen the dirt while we went to clean the inside windows.

Cleaning the inside of the windows

Because of all the building work that had been going on there was a lot of plaster spots on the inside of the windows, along with stickers that had been left on the glass, that needed to be removed with a scraper.

A fresh blade and lots of soap on the glass makes sure that it effectively removes the plaster and stickers without scratching the glass.

Squeegee the inside

After all that preparation we are ready to us the traditional window cleaner’s tool – the squeegee. A squeegee is like a hand-held windscreen wiper that has replaceable rubber to effectively “cut” the water off the window.

The glass is soaped up and the the squeegee removes all the dirty water leaving a clean and dry window behind. We go around the edges with a microfibre cloth to “detail” the glass, drying any drips of water that sit around th edges of the window frames.

These windows were so dirty we actually bladed them twice.

All finished and sparkling clean

The owners were over the moon, they couldn’t believe how much more light flooded inside the restaurant with the windows cleaned. Now the restaurant is ready to open and start serving delicious burgers and shakes. You can check them out where TJ Hughes used to be in Kidderminster town centre.
