Driveway Cleaning Update - 3 Months On

3 months ago we softwashed a driveway in Kidderminster. This method of cleaning doesn’t use a pressure washer and the results get better with time.

Now we have got some picture 3 months on to show the results that can be got from softwashing instead of pressure washing!

In the first picture you can see all the slippery algae and moss, both on the surface and between the joints of the block pavers.

In the second picture you see the day it was finished. The top of the pavers was clean, and you can see how the moss inbetween the pavers has turned white as it had been treated.

In the third picture three months on, you see that the moss between the pavers has died and the driveway has kept up its great appearance.

Pressure washing often moves around seeds that are inbetween the pavers, and quickly after leaving weeds begin to grow back. Softwashing kills the seeds so there is nothing to grow back. There has been no additional weeding or treatment since the initial cleaning, but there is no weed growth that you would often get after pressure washing.

After pressure washing the drive needs to be re-sanded. This involves brushing in kiln-dried sand where the old sand has een washed away from between the pavers. This new sand quickly discolours and grows moss.

You can see that after softwashing the moss remains in place but is dead. It does not incurr the extra expense of resanding the driveway and it ensures that the pavers are held firmly in place.

Both softwashing and pressure washing have their advantages, and have certain applications where they will be the better choice.
